This redwood parcel of 226 ha is one of the last virgin redwood forests of the Bay. It became a national monument in 1908, Muir Woods was awarded the name of John Muir the advocate of natural resources.

Since the information center, the Main Trail (1.6 km) leads to Cathedral Grove, where ancient trees stand their tops to the sky.
