Located in the Hotel-Dieu, a building built in the late eighteenth century, the apothecary of Bourg-en-Bresse presents a set of three pieces, including the laboratory; a piece that is still rare to see. The equipment found there is remarkable and allows to interfere with the chemistry of past centuries: copper stills, mortars, cast iron stove of the nineteenth century.
The back room reveals for its first earthenware pots, shrimp pots or canon (symbols Apothecary jars), and a library containing old books, some even date back to the seventeenth century. The fireplace, with its oak paneling Louis XV and Louis XVI style carved custom to store containers and particularly impressive: pots Thériaque, reveals the entire pharmacopoeia of time then carefully stored in more than one thousand containers: water, powders, ointments, or pills.
