Charles de Gaulle was born in Lille November 22, 1890, in the house of his maternal grandparents, at 9 rue Princesse. He was baptized the same day at the St. Andrew's Church nearby. Historic Monument, the house was bought in 1967 by a group of friends overall. Now a museum, it recreates the atmosphere of a feature within the industrial bourgeoisie of northern France in the late nineteenth century. Family memories and personal exhibits evoke youth De Gaulle (cradle, christening gown, sword-saint Cyprien, etc.) recently developed a multimedia center also retraces the historical work of the statesman.
