Inaugurated in 1967, the museum aims to preserve the memory of what was for centuries the main activity of any Northern Alsace.
Essentially of documents, photographs, models, objects and oil equipment, the museum traces 500 years of oil history in North Alsace.
Did you know? That is Merkwiller-Pechelbronn, qu'ouvra the first oil production site in Europe. This epic adventure began in 1498 and accelerated in the 18th century. Therefore, the operation took an industrial dimension until its closure in 1970.
The museum traces the development of the mines operating techniques and galleries by drilling and pumping with photos, videos, models, posters and other items to support.
