The Green Museum, class Museum of France, is the museum of natural history in the city of le Mans. It is located in the Southwest sector, at the centre of the Jaurès district and not far from Pontlieue.
Located in the old school Véron de Forbonnais (building of the 19th century), it houses collections of geology, paleontology, zoology and botany, rich over 200,000 specimens. The Green Museum opened its doors to the public in 1995 but its collections are the result of a much older history.
The centerpieces are objects retained the old County of Maine and the Sarthe Department. It is possible to discover the aurochs of Pontvallain; the plesiosaur of Saint-Rémy-du-Val; the meteorite of Saint-Ouen-en-Champagne; birds and Sarthe missing mammals such as Wolf, mink in Europe or the great bustard.
