Cécile B. Evans - AMOS' WORLD: Episode One

Mumok - Museumsquartier Vienne | Vienna
€8 - €12
In her works, American–Belgian artist Cécile B. Evans explores the significance and role of emotions in contemporary society, and looks at the increasing influence of new technologies on our feelings and actions.

For her solo exhibition at mumok she will develop an architectural setting in which her video AMOS’ WORLD is presented. AMOS’ WORLD is a three-part television series that takes place in a socially advanced housing estate. The key characters are the architect Amos and the inhabitants of the estate he built. Just like the tenants, Amos, a mix between Saint-Exupéry’s Little Prince and a famous brutalist architect, is part of the larger infrastructure of his building. At time passes, the inhabitants weaken Amos’s comfortable position. They simply refuse to behave in accordance with his vision of the perfect coexistence of an individual and a communal spirit in the age of capitalism. The network transpires to be full of holes. Structures of power are eroded, and a negative dynamic sets in. This leads to the question as to the influence of the network age on the conflict between rights of the individual and mechanisms of collective control.

The exhibition is over since the 01/07/2018
