Rubens - Portraits Princiers

Musée du Luxembourg | Paris
€8.5 - €12
Rubens was, no doubt a little in spite of himself, an immense portraitist of the court. If he first wanted to paint great historical subjects, he excelled in the field of portraiture, painting the most important Royal families in Europe.

Taken for his erudition and his conversation, he also played an important diplomatic role, enjoying an unparalleled social position among the artists of his time. Around the portraits of Philippe IV, Louis XIII or Marie de Medicis by Rubens and some famous contemporaries (Pourbus, Champaigne, Velázquez, Van Dyck ...), the exhibition plunges the visitor into the heart of diplomatic intrigues of the seventeenth century.

The exhibition is over since the 14/01/2018
