The Magic of Holy Images

Prague City Museum | Prague
Kč60 - Kč150
This exhibition will be divided into two parts. The first will lead the visitor through depictions of amorous sculptures and paintings to little devotional graphics found on the way to various pilgrimage sites in and around Prague, from the pilgrim center in Hájek to Bílá Hora, Strahov, Hradčany, the Lesser Town, Charles Bridge, Old Town, New Town, Vyšehrad, and on to Zbraslav.

The second part of the exhibition will be devoted to the first half of the nineteenth century, which could be called the “golden age” of the printing of holy images in Prague. It will introduce exhibition visitors to little devotional graphics produced in the course of the first half of the nineteenth century, with an emphasis on the lingering era of Classicism and on the Biedermeier period. The presentation will cover a broad cross section of the production of Prague’s most important print shops: Jan Pachmayer, Václav Hoffmann, Dominik Maulini, Josef Hora, Zikmund Rudl, Leopold Koppe, and many others.

The exhibition is over since the 25/02/2018
