Troyes | Decorative Arts
The Apothicairerie of the Hôtel-Dieu-le-Comte, considered as one of the most beautiful in France - and whose collection is classified national heritage - remained as it was installed in the early eighteenth century

The room is lined with 320 silenus (apothecary boxes) cylindrical or rectangular painted wood where were kept raw pharmaceuticals. These are true works of art for which the craftsman gave free rein to his inspiration in the humorous spirit of the eighteenth century. Some represent the substance contained, others are decorated with animals, allegorical or symbolic images.

The apothecary also houses an important collection of bronze mortars of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, many pewter objects, including a large fountain theriac of the seventeenth century (preparation considered the universal panacea).
The former neighboring laboratory presents the collection of Jean-Marie Denis (pharmaceutical faience from major European centers: Italy, Spain, Holland ...) and art objects, some of which come from the chapel (reliquaries).
