Presentation
Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral is located on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité in the fourth arrondissement of Paris. Construction is being extended over many decades (two centuries), the style is therefore not to a total uniformity: it thus has characteristics of early Gothic (sexpartite vaults of the nave) and the High Gothic. The two roses that adorn each arm of the transept are among the largest in Europe, and each measure 13 meters in diameter. It was upon its completion one of the largest cathedrals in the West. After the revolutionary upheaval, the cathedral has undergone from 1844 to 1864 a major restoration and sometimes controversial led by architect Viollet-le-Duc, who has incorporated elements and patterns that the monument left by the Middle Ages had never possessed.
