In 2004 Patrick McKillen buy this 100% Provençal terroir whose viticulture dates back to Roman times. The immense bastide of Venetian style dates back from the seventeenth century. Surrounded by trees, it nowadays gather an ultra modern vinification cellar designed by Jean Nouvel and an art center signed by the star architect Tadao Ando. The concrete and glass building also houses a coffee shop, a restaurant and a bookshop.

Patrick McKillen, an enthusiast of modern and contemporary art as well as of architecture, has decided to make Château La Coste a unique place in France and Europe where vineyards and majestic installations meet. It's now 11 years since McKillen gave carte blanche to architects, designers and artists from all around the world to invest as much as they liked on the 200 hectares of the estate.

Arrival at the Château La Coste is done by a carefully gravelly path, along of the 125 hectares of vineyard. In the distance, the Tadao Ando art center is already established, but what awaits the visitor make him instantly forgets all the rest: at the end of the road, as walking on the water, stands a bronze spider signed by Louise Bourgeois who seems to Keep the entrance to the estate. On the other side of the large concrete wall bordering the center, a mobile of Calder darts his arms under the sun of Provence. The set makes its effect, and announces the color.

If the art center / cafe-restaurant / bookshop is worth the visit, it is outside that unfold all the treasures of the Château La Coste. Here, between the vines or behind a mound, stands a Pavilion of the music imagined in 2008 by Frank Gehry or the famous installation Drop of Tom Shannon, silvery drop almost above the ground. And what about these signed creations of land art masters, Andy Goldsworthy, Richard Serra or Sean Scully. If the estate La Coste is a wonder for any wine lover, it is also for lovers of art, who, amazed, go from art work to art work. The course is so long, and the area so large, that one crosses the latter by quad, or golf cart. Surrealist yes, like the majority of installation.

Regarding the wine, White, Red or Rosé is controlled by Matthieu Cosse, winemaker of Château La Coste and co-owner in Cahors of the Cosse Maisonneuve estate.
