The famous fountain in the Rococo style was begun in 1732 by Nicola Salvi (winner of the competition wanted by Pope Clement XII) and completed by Giuseppe Pannini in 1762.

This monument, powered by one of the oldest Roman aqueducts, said of the Acqua Vergine, is Neptune on a shell-shaped chariot pulled by sea horses and guided by newts.

Remember, before you leave this place, to throw a small coin into the fountain, you'll be sure to come back one day in the Eternal City. If however you are looking for true love and if it where the one that makes your heart beat is Italian, take two pieces, throw in three finally be on if you want to get married soon.

A curiosity: the Trevi Fountain has been the backdrop for a scene of unforgettable Fellini film "La Dolce Vita" in which a buxom Anita Eckberg, ravishing in a black evening dress, bathe in the fountain by calling Marcello Mastroianni for him to join.
