30 ceiling-high photos are leading chronologically through the history. In front of each photo a scene is set up - for example, in front of the the ruins of 1945, the suitcases of refugees and the buckets of the "Trümmerfrauen" (rubble women). Aditionally a 100 second film about the time is played.

Starting from the bookstore Berlin Story, the "Historiale" is the biggest historical festival in Europe. In the end of August the festival presents the theme of the years between 1945 and 1961 at the Nikolai quarter, the oldest residential area of Berlin.
