Hortus Botanicus

€4.5 - €8.5
The Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. The gardens, located in the Plantage district just outside the city center, are an oasis of calm in the city. Behind the 300 year old doors are gardens and greenhouses with butterflies and cacti.

Originally, the garden was created as a "hortus medicus" to cultivate medicinal plants for pharmacists and surgeons. Later this function was abandoned and the Hortus became independent from the University of Amsterdam. These days, the gardens have several local sponsors.

The Hortus Botanicus, with over 4,000 varieties of plants, is unique and worth a visit. Do not forget to check the "Greenhouse three climates" and take a drink in the biological orangery. The Artis zoo is located near these gardens.
