Founded in 1974 by photographer John Dieuzaide Toulouse, the Galerie du Château d'Eau is the oldest public institution devoted exclusively to photography in France.

Installed along the Garonne, in an original architecture of the nineteenth century, the Château d'Eau fountain fueled 90 from 1823 to 1870. You can still see the old hydraulic system including pump and paddle wheels.

The mission of the gallery is twofold: to preserve the heritage of original prints and offer programming that is both ambitious and balanced, that makes room for emergent work, as more works.
