Presentation
The MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts is one of the most important museums of its kind in the world. Originally created as a collection of samples, the unique collection of the MAK, founded in 1863 as the "Imperial-royal Austrian museum of art and industry", stands to the present day for an unusual connection between applied art, design, architecture and contemporary art.

The expansive rooms of the public collection in the majestic Ringstraße building of Heinrich von Ferstel are designed by contemporary artists and display selected highlights of the MAK collection. In a unique interaction of artistic heritage and contemporary interventions, the historic objects are presented in a new way and invite visitors to consider the objects more thoroughly in this special context.
