The Saint-Germain Auxerre museum is housed in the monastic buildings of the abbey of Saint-Germain, who witnessed the Carolingian Renaissance of the ninth century in Europe.

This place is home to the burial of bishops of Auxerre since the death of Saint Germain in the fifth century crypt Carolingian frescoes and a narthex and nave of the eleventh century, Romanesque halls, a Gothic church and a classic cloister.

The large collection of paintings is not exposed, the museum today with the ancient and medieval works, and does not provide any accommodation for collections of Fine Arts.
