The Archaeological Museum, born in the eighteenth century, is the oldest museum in Strasbourg. For three centuries of a sometimes turbulent existence, it has assembled very important collections. Installed since the end of the 19th century in the basement of the Rohan Palace, their variety and wide chronological field make it one of the most important archeology museums in France.

You will discover the history of Strasbourg and Alsace, from the earliest beginnings of prehistory to the first centuries of the Middle Ages.

A complete museum refurbishment, carried out from 1988 to 1992, completely renewed the presentation and incorporated the most recent data from regional archaeological research. The collections continue to be regularly enriched by archaeological excavations throughout the region. Temporary exhibitions offer you every year to find the news of the research and the most significant discoveries. The Archaeological Museum thus fully assures its role as a showcase for national and regional archaeological research.
