The museum displays artifacts illustrating the passion that was curious collector Auguste Grasset. More coherent sets revolve around three levels of contemporary monumental hall where the equestrian Saint-Eustache, a masterpiece of Nevers faience (1734), welcomes the visitor.

Antiquity is mostly represented by an Egyptian collection that neighbor in the basement of the museum, with a collection of weapons and ornaments of the islands of the South Pacific.

Upstairs, a chronological mix of art, sculptures and paintings from the Middle Ages to the pre-Impressionist objects. The recent Music Room reveals, in a subtle play of light and sound, twenty odd instruments from the 17th to the 19th century, such as ophicléide the serinette, dulcimer or fortepiano.
Finally, the second level has the finest collection of earthenware of Nevers and Varzy, and a set of tables nivernais landscape painters of the 19th century.
