The Museum of Bailleul was founded in 1859 through a bequest of Benedict De Puydt. Born in Bailleul, Benoît De Puydt was clerk and wealthy collector. One floor of the museum is also reserved for works that belonged to him.
Damaged during the First World War, the museum is now located in a building rebuilt by architect Louis Roussel.
The museum has collections of paintings, furniture, objects, decorative arts, sculpture, ceramics and lace. Many works of the painter Pharaon de Winter are also exhibited.
