The Mediterranean Archaeological Museum, located on the first floor of the Vieille Charité in Marseille, consists of three departments: Egyptian antiquities, classical antiquities and regional archeology.

The museum traces a vast panorama of ancient civilizations around the Mediterranean. It has a rich and varied collection of Egyptian, classical and proto periods. Throughout the Mediterranean basin and is presented through objects of the time ??, ?? synonymous with the existence and prestige of the past.

The Egyptian collection is second in France after the Louvre. It consists largely by the collection of Clot Bey, private doctor, a friend and ambassador of the viceroy of Egypt, Mohammed Ali. The visitor travels three thousand years of history sarcophagi with mummies, to the statues of deities or amulets. He discovered art, daily life, religious beliefs and rites of ancient Egypt.
