The museum is located in Gueret Sénatorerie, capital of the Creuse department in the Limousin region.
Partly built in the eighteenth century, the Hotel de Sénatorerie was the residence of senators under Napoleon I. In 1832, the Society of Natural Sciences and archaeological Creuse, one of the oldest learned societies of France, it brings together of natural history and art collections. In 1907, the City Sénatorerie becomes a museum, surrounded by a park of trees centenaries rare species.

The cabinet of natural history of the nineteenth century is still present in the museum. The museum presents tapestries, art objects and paintings, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The museum's reputation also lies in its wealth of silverware Limousin, the Gallo-Roman statuary and a remarkable collection of Chinese ceramics. You can also admire a department firearms and knives.
Painting a room is dedicated to artists who found their inspiration with the school Crozant.
