The Musée de la Cour d'Or is one of the leading French museums of archeology and history.

Located near the cathedral Saint-Etienne, in the heart of the city of Metz, in a group consisting of the old Abbey of the Small Carmes and the attic of Chèvremont dating from 1457, the Museum of the Golden Court gathers Gallo-Roman, medieval and fine arts collections on more than 5,000 m².

The name of the museum refers to a legend that the buildings housing it would be located in place of the former palace of the golden court of the Merovingian kings of Austrasia. This site, very rich, shelters Gallo-Roman thermal baths which one can still discover in situ.

A fabulous journey through the centuries awaits the public in the halls of the Museum, each of which unveils bits of history essential to understand and appropriate the identity of the metropolis of Metz.
