Montereau faience had its heyday in the second half of the nineteenth century, particularly after the merger with the manufacture of Creil, and with the development of printed designs.

It is the variety of styles and the diversity of subjects decorations that make a visit to the Museum a unique experience to see all these decorations is like leafing through a great "cartoon" which tells the nineteenth century and early twentieth, the history, his interests, his scenes of everyday life.

Parts of the permanent collection are displayed by date of manufacture. The origins date back to the period 1800-1825: the first pieces signed "Montereau" is a production of handmade pieces pipe clay of good quality, mainly marked by hand-painted murals and progressively printed in black and white . The decor says "botanised" or mourning the queen is particularly refined. Mythological subjects, or revolutionary warriors adorn round or octagonal plates, soup bowls and other commonly used items.
