Musée de la Faïence et de la Batellerie

Auvillar | Arts décoratifs - Ethnologie
Earthenware created the greatest Auvillar wealth. The city had more than 2,000 people and in 1700 there were 300 to 400 potters in fifteen factories.

By 1820, annual production was 1.2 million pieces of earthenware or pottery. These parts were leaving the harbor Auvillar boatloads, and sold at fairs along the rivers, to Bordeaux. Then, they were exported to England and the colonies. Last oven will shut off in 1905.

Objects Skippers integral part of the Museum's collections, are located in the Clock Tower on two levels. The tour features a system of loudspeakers that broadcast information to visitors about the history of the boats on the Garonne in the last centuries.
