The Liberation Museum stands on top of the mountain overlooking Cherbourg Roule, 117 meters above the level of the sea. It is housed in an old fort of the Second Empire, occupied by German army during the second World War. Its takeover by Allied troops, June 25, 1944, is one of the symbols of the liberation of Cherbourg.

The museum traces the role of Cherbourg - first port released - during the Second World War, with the focus on the lives of civilians and soldiers. Interior Fort educational and scenography, to route, ends at the exit by the discovery of a splendid panorama of the harbor of Cherbourg.
