The Museum of Music, which opened in 1997, is part of the City of Music, set of institutions dedicated to music located in the district of La Villette, in the nineteenth arrondissement of Paris.

The museum has a collection of several hundred musical instruments collected by the National Higher Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris. These are essentially instruments of classical and popular music of the seventeenth century to the present: lutes, archlutes, Italian violins (Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati), French harpsichords, Flemish, Italian, French Erard and Pleyel pianos, Adolphe Sax etc.
