The museum is housed in a stone building of the nineteenth century, which was the oldest hotel in the sub-prefecture. The route of the museum is divided into two sections:
- The first relates chronic Citroën expeditions in Africa, conducted in the 1920s, reflected a genuine caterpillar, the "Silver Crescent" and ethnographic objects presented.
- The second presents a wide range of art and history, sculptures, decorative arts, weapons and furniture.
 
Throughout the year, the Museum of Saint-Jean d'Angely offers many activities.
