Musée des Beaux-Arts de Brest

Brest | Beaux-Arts - Arts décoratifs - Art moderne et contemporain
€2.5 - €4
The museum of the fine arts of Brest is the principal museum of art of the town of Brest, in Brittany. The museum and its collections were recreated after the Second World War, the museum having been destroyed following the example of most of the city during its bombardment by the allied forces.

With a considerable effort, an admirable collection of old painting – largest to have been made up in France since 1945 – could be joined together. This one offers in particular a beautiful panorama of French and Italian painting through the centuries. Painting modern is also present, although the museum concentrated in priority on the creation of a collection of old art which can be a witness of the past, for a city which almost lost all its old heritage at the time as of bombardments.

Completed in 1964, the building sheltering the museum is as for him typical of the functional architecture of the post-war period in Brest.
