The Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon is one of the largest, one of the finest and oldest museums in France. Located in the heart of the city, it occupies the former ducal palace, seat of the fifteenth century Burgundian state. When the Duchy is attached to the kingdom of France, the palace became the home of the king, then changes in seventeenth-century palace of the States of Burgundy on a project by Jules Hardouin-Mansart.

The Museum of Fine Arts was established by decree of the States of Burgundy, November 30, 1787, but the project dates back to 1783, the decision to build the east wing of the palace. We had to help teach students the art school by bringing together works that could serve as models. The original school, free and open to all, was created by François Devosge, March 24, 1767.

Consisting of two rooms, the room of statues, sculptures intended for, and Condé lounge devoted to paintings, and famous for its scenery glory of Condé, governors of Burgundy, presented the museum consist of the works of the winners of the collections Rome Prize and the revolutionary seizures. Enriched by imperial outs, government deposits, donations and bequests from collectors it gradually spread inside the Palace.
