The Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology was founded in 1821 by the will of elected officials and local leaders to give back to the city's former luster comtoise capital. Since 1980, the installation of the museum in the Pavilion Officers, can show the collections with the required quality.

The collections are rich in three sections: archeology, ancient art and contemporary art.

Two rooms in the basement are devoted to archaeological discoveries of the Jura, from the Neolithic to the Merovingian period.
The wealth of ancient art reminds funds prosperity Dole, capital of Franche-Comté until 1678 also the history of the Franche-Comté is presented through the scenes of conquests painted by van der Meulen Martin Battles and Martin des Gobelins.
The contemporary art collection contains two streams of artists who worked in France from the 60s and the center of interest has focused on the analysis of the relationship between art and society.
