The Museum of fine arts was created in 1864, thanks to the bequests made by count Jean-Marie de Silguy (17985-1864) to his hometown. The only requirement of the generous donor of a remarkable collection of paintings and drawings was that a museum be built to welcome him.

This "Italian Palace" and the work of the architect Joseph Bigot, the most famous in the Finistère to that time, in that it must also the spires of the Cathedral. The Museum is eescheadquarters 1872, one of the first in France to be housed in a building built specifically.

The Museum has a fund exposed alternately designs and high quality prints. It covers mainly the french domain: Callot, Vouet, Brown, Boucher, Fragonard, Greuze, Robert... The works and artists related to Brittany are well represented: Sérusier, Isabey, Maufra, Filiger, Yan' money...
