In 1925, former fighters harnésiens the First World War created the Hall of Remembrance. These veterans, concerned the duty of memory, decided to gather in a town hall military objects of all kinds (helmets, medals, weapons, photographs ...), they are only on the day of 11 November.

In the early 1970s, Mayor Harnes provides veterans a nineteenth-century mansion that belonged to Senator A. Deprez, so that they will have military objects in the Hall of Remembrance (become too small for contain all).

The museum consists of several rooms in relation to the two world wars, the resistance, deportation. In addition, it has four rooms of Archaeology
