Presentation
The Museum of initiation to nature is a small museum dedicated to ecology. It is located within the grounds of the Abbey of Caen men, especially in the old bakery.

In 1823, a natural history museum is based in Caen. The collections are enriched by the deposits of the Linnean Society of Normandy, founded the same year by Arcisse Caumont. First located in a wing of the Town Hall (former seminary Eudist Caen), it is then transferred to the Palace of the faculties of the University of Caen. It is then assembled collections of the city and the Faculty of Science. In 1944, during the Battle of Caen, the palace of the University is destroyed and much of the rich collections is lost.
The current museum was founded in 1974 by Dr. Duncombe to replace the natural history museum.
