The Alexandre-Franconie Museum has diverse collections in the field of natural history, archeology, ethnography and local history.

The Alexandre-Franconie museum was established in 1901 at the initiative of Governor Emile Merwart. Following the success of the flag of Guyana at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900, the Governor decided to open a museum in Cayenne with the ambition to present Guyana. The museum was inaugurated in 1901.

The Franconie Museum now includes collections in the areas of:
- The natural history (flora, fauna, mineralogy Guyana)
- Archaeology
- Ethnology
- Local history
