The departmental Museum of ancient and contemporary art of Epinal is the main Museum of the city of Épinal. It brings together about 30,000 works of art of all kinds and epochs, including the masterpieces of European painting.

The first collection of the Museum was offered by the Duke of Choiseul-Stainville which included masterpiece by Georges de La Tour: Job mocked by his wife. The Museum was built in order to keep the prestigious collection of paintings and sculptures of the princes of Salm confiscated during the French Revolution.
Among the many paintings from the collection of painting stand several remarkable works: including a Mater Dolorosa of Rembrandt, the Job mocked by his wife of Georges de La Tour and the embarkation of Sainte Paule to Ostia of Claude jelly said Le Lorrain. Other great masters of the 17th and 18th centuries are also present: Jan Brueghel the elder, Albane, Simon Vouet, Claude Vignon, Pierre Mignard, Jacques Stella, Paul Bril, Hendrick van Balen, Frans II Francken, Jan van Goyen, Jan Miense Molenaer, Jacob van Ruisdael, Laurent de La Hyre (mercury and Herse, 1649), Antoine Coypel, Salvatore Rosa, Nicolas de Largillière, Sebastiano Ricci, François Desportes, François LemoyneGiovanni Paolo Panini, Hubert Robert.
The Museum also houses a copy of the Mona Lisa. For the collection of 19th century art there including a painting by Maximilien Luce.
