Barbizon is the village where resided from 1830 to 1875 came the painters working in the forest of Fontainebleau. The Prefectural Museum of the Barbizon School has two sites: the inn Ganne, where many artists lived and the house and workshop in which Theodore Rousseau lived and worked until his death in 1867, the famous landscape.

The rooms on the ground floor of the inn Ganne recreate the warm atmosphere of the 'painted' in Ganne "thanks to the furniture and painted decorations. Upstairs, three dormitories covered with drawings and rough sketches walls and a hundred works of Theodore Rousseau, Jean-François Millet, Narcisse Diaz de la Pena, Constant Troyon, Rosa Bonheur and other minor artists of the nineteenth century.
