Musée Départemental du Sel

Marsal | Histoire - Sciences fondamentales - Technique et industrie
€3.5 - €5
The County Salt Museum is housed in one of two ancient fortified gates, called "Porte de France", a remnant of the fortifications of Vauban.

This museum is dedicated to rock salt. You can discover the history of salt and Marsal in Saulnois from prehistory to the present day, through production techniques with "bricks". It also houses a large collection of salt.

Once you cross the threshold the visitor discovers a large courtyard where exposed machinery and tools used in the early twentieth century to extract salt - drilling and pumping salt dissolved beforehand. By stairs located at the end of the building, you reach the top floor at the Salt Museum. From room to room, it is the history of salt but also Marsal and Saulnois are discussed.
