Presentation
Located in the heart of the city, Gassendi Museum occupies a former hospital of the sixteenth century. It provides the public with encyclopedic collections developed for over a century in the field of art, history and science. Today, the Museum Gassendi values this diversity: the presence of contemporary art in relation to the permanent collections, allows breaking down disciplinary barriers. So the first work that can be seen by transparency before entering the museum is that of an American artist Mark Dion. "Worthy Collection Index" is a miniature of Gassendi Museum, a large cabinet which combines art and science. Similarly Provencal painting the room nineteenth thus confronts contemporary and monumental landscape approach Andy Goldsworthy "River of Earth".

Can be found at the museum four major periods represented:
- The nineteenth century with the painting collection of Provencal landscapes made by artist Stephen Martin.
- The ancient art fund (XVI-XVIII centuries) offering works mainly from the Bishop of Digne.
- The science classrooms formed around stuffed animals and tools of physics and optics.
- Contemporary art in interaction with all the works of the museum and that questions the relationship between man and his environment.
