Musée du Baptistère Saint-Jean

€1 - €2
The Baptistery is a Christian monument located in Poitiers. It is reputed to be the oldest Christian monument in the West.
The central part of the baptistery was built around 360 years in the future episcopal district of the city of Poitiers, near the residence of St. Hilaire and the future cathedral.

Many studies have changed over the ages: a baptismal font was added in the sixth century it because at that time baptism was by immersion. It was blocked, in the eighth century at the latest.
A transept with square arms and a round apse were added in the sixth - seventh centuries. The transept were then converted into two small semi-circular apses.
