The Château de Noirmoutier is a castle located on the island of Noirmoutier in the Department of Vendée. It dominates the town of Noirmoutier-en-l'ïle of its high tower 20 meters. This castle is well preserved and testifies to the medieval architecture of the 12th century.

The first traces of the castle appeared in 830 with the construction of a castrum by the abbot Hilbold, the monastery of Saint-Philbert. It was used to defend the monks and the population of the island against the vikings.

The castle was rebuilt in stone in the 12th century by the feudal power which tries to stabilise the region, notably by preventing Norman pillaging. The island is then found under the thumb of the Lords of La Garnache. The keep was built by Pierre IV de La Garnache, then an enclosure equipped with towers was built and surrounds the barnyard.
