Built in 1738, for the marquis Antoine Monconseil Guinot, this mansion was from 1790 to 1810 the seat of the prefecture of Charente-Inférieure, before becoming a Museum in 1920.

This museum contains rich collections of regional art met at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries by Abel Mestreau (1855-1939): signs, pottery, engravings, paintings, jewelry, costumes and headdresses, weapons, reconstitution of a peasant Interior.
