Restored in 2000 and reorganized museum houses the collections of the painter Fernand Desmoulins (1855-1914). Student of Bouguereau and Luc-Olivier Merson, Desmoulins was an official artist prized by political, scientific and literary celebrities of the Third Republic. Ferdinand de Lesseps, Jules Ferry, Raymond Poincaré, Pastor, as well as Renan, the Goncourt, Zola and others posed for him.
The museum holds many of these portraits, especially those who were burned. Desmoulin was, indeed, a master of etching, which led him to illustrate novels Goncourt, Alphonse Daudet, Hector Malot, etc. His many travels in the Far East, Venice, Holland, Germany, he brought back memories displayed in the windows of the museum.

In 1890, Desmoulin suddenly parted rules of academic realism to indulge curious mediumistic experiences. For two years during sessions turntables, he produced a series of automatic drawings (93 figures, pencil, charcoal or chalk) which drew upon him the attention and André Breton surreal .
