The Museum of Gallo-Roman civilization is located in Lyon, close to the Roman theaters, on the Fourvière hill, once located in the heart of the Roman city of Lugdunum. It is managed and operated by the departments of Rhone, in conjunction with the archaeological museum of Saint-Romain-en-Gal. The museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions.

The museum is arranged to provide views of the foundations are still visible and the Odeon Theatre. It brings together the discoveries made on the ancient site of Lyon, in the region or elsewhere for some parts. It is especially engraved stones, statues, jewelry, objects of everyday life, etc.

A relief map of the ancient Lugdunum shows the city arranged primarily on the Fourvière hill overlooking the island which became the present peninsula. The development of the city on the banks required extensive drainage work.
