In 1851 by a gift, then in 1867 by a bequest, Ingres greatly enriches the museum in his hometown. It offers collections of antiques and old paintings, more than 4,000 autographs drawings, twenty paintings and numerous personal items including the famous violin. The Ingres Museum was born. It takes the body to the end of the nineteenth century and occupies the entire palace from 1909. Since then, the museum has continued to expand its funds and awards include several works by the sculptor Bourdelle Montauban.
