Musée Jacquemart André - Château de Chaalis

Fontaine-Chaalis | Arts décoratifs - Beaux-Arts
€5 - €7
Knowledgeable collector, Nélie Jacquemart-André gathered in the castle of Chaalis some of its outstanding acquisitions. The works of Giotto, Boucher, Van Loo and Desportes seem to watch over the furniture and art objects dating from antiquity to the nineteenth century.

Nélie Jacquemart-André in 1902 bought the field of Chaalis. The "castle" built by Jean Aubert in the eighteenth century, was the first wing of a cloister that will never be completed due to bankruptcy, hence its very particular architectural structure. This is where Mrs. André together patches of his last trips that had led Italy to Burma via Egypt. At his death in 1912, she bequeathed to the Institut de France and the area surrounding the properties.
