The purpose of the Museum is to emphasize the country of ’ Allevard through its rich collections which were collected by the voluntary ones around three great sets of themes: iron, the hydrotherapy and life of the country D'Allevard.

This mountain region, whose ’ activity is traditionally turned around the ’breeding, experiences as of the Middle Ages the development related to the ’exploitation of the iron mines present in the solid mass of Belledonne. The metallurgy will experience an industrial development during centuries; it is present still today.

It ’is in 1836, that tourism around hydrotherapy develops. Allevard, industrial town, take the face of ’ then a vacation resort. With the ’ advent of the ski in the middle of the 20th century, of the stations are built in the mountain pastures of the country allevardin.
Through a rich collection of ’ objects, paintings, photographs and engravings, the museum invites the public on a tour of this rich and enthralling history.
