The center of the old town of Pau in Béarn, stands the castle of Pau, famous for being the birth of the King of France and Navarre, Henry IV. The castle now bears the marks of this imposing presence: the various representations of the "good king" Henry adorn the walls on all sides.

But the castle, much older in fact that the combination of Navarre and French kingdoms, carries with it the tormented brands in modern history, under the benevolent figure of the "green gallant". It was a historical monument in 1840.
