The National Museum of Sport (MNS), created in 1963, is a museum dealing with the sports phenomenon in its entirety. Its collections include over 100,000 objects and trace the history of the sport in France from its origins. The site of exposure in the 13th arrondissement of Paris is closed since January 1, 2013. The Museum at reopened its doors in 2014 in Nice, within the stadium Allianz Riviera.

The idea of the creation of a Museum of Sport in France dates back to 1922. The objective of its initiators was opened on the occasion of the Olympic Games in 1924, but the project bogged down quickly. In 1963, Maurice Herzog, Secretary of State for youth and Sports, in association with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Georges-Henri Rivière, then Director of the national Museum of arts and popular traditions, and Jean Durry, cyclist and sports enthusiast, entrusts the mission to finally bring this project to fruition.

The collections cover thus:
-history of physical and sports practices;
-the history and technical development of equipment and materials;
-the artistic interpretation (painting, sculpture, engraving, prints, decorative arts, philately...), photographic and graphic, physical activities;
-the testimony of the sports phenomenon as a picture of the history of societies (games, media, economics, advertising, design...);
-the story of the champions and players in the sport with their equipment and memories...
