Musée Saint-Nicolas

Vitré | Art religieux - Arts décoratifs - Beaux-Arts
€2.5 - €4
Museum Saint Nicolas contains an exceptional collection of church silver from the 17th to the early 20th century. This collection takes place in the former nuns' choir in the chapel of Gothic style of the Saint Nicolas hospital.

The revival of the art of silversmithing in the middle of the 19th century, giving rise to the Gothic-inspired pieces, including Poussielgue Rusand pupil of Viollet-le-Duc, is one of the main creators. We owe him the altar of the church of Saint Martin de Vitre. Other prestigious pieces come to account for the influence of Art Nouveau and Art Deco in the field of Sacred Art.
